Mavutu Conversations - Happy new year

This year is no different; we are still talking about women-related issues and everything surrounding women. I hope 2022 was a great year for every one of you readers. I realise I did not have a last column for the year to thank you for being consistent with your support and dedication to reading and learning new things about women. However, better late than never, right?

The year 2022 was truly a beautiful year, and everyone who complimented me on my writing and the information I was disseminating – I am because of you.

For the new people who will be joining us, welcome to Mavutu Conversations. Here, we converse about everything that is woman related and we educate fellow women on woman-related issues. Over the last three years, Mavutu Conversations has birthed conversations that were deemed uncomfortable and taboo. It has also seen an inflection of different opinions, both good and bad. However so, I can only agree that the good ones have outweighed the bad ones.

So, as we continue to educate and learn, may we do so with open minds. May we be willing to implement the new things that we learn. May we continue to understand that it is never too late to unlearn certain things that one deemed as right. Often enough, society has given us a different perception of women and how to view them. I am here to remind you that, women are not objects, they are not toys and neither are they anything that patriarchy perpetuates them to be.

I do, however, want to reiterate that just because this is a column for women-related issues, it is as well a learning platform for men to learn different things about women. This is particularly important to note because I believe that over the years since I started this column, men have called me biased and unfair for only covering women-related content. I am here to remind you that there are a lot of things that as men, you can learn from and correct some of the perceptions that you have about women. Through my column, I have had men send me feedback on how important these topics that I write about are. As a result, I have had great conversations afterward where men asked more questions and we had engagements.

To the new women who will be starting with me on this journey, please do not hesitate to ask questions if you need my assistance. I would like to reiterate that I do not have medical training, however, I do have support from people who do. Thus, for the topics that are health-related, do send me those emails if you are not sure or if you need more information.

So, happy new year – better late than never. May this one be fruitful in terms of learning and teaching.
